Six Houseplants That Can Cut Air Pollution in Your Home.

Six Houseplants That Can Cut Air Pollution in Your Home.

Nearly 2000 pollution hot-spots have been identified by campaigners across England, wales and Northern Ireland.

Air pollution doesn’t just affect those whose health is already compromised.  It’s been linked to dementia, heart disease and miscarriage in recent studies.  It’s a big health issue and the are highlighting how small reductions in air pollution can help reduce some damage to health.

As well as playing an important role in helping us to relax, reset and rebalance, houseplants clean the air we breathe and have a positive impact on our health.

Research carried out by NASA shows that houseplants can help play a part in reducing pollution in our homes.

There are some lovely houseplants to consider but below are some that are not only great for purifying the air but that are easy to look after.

Spider Plant

Easy to look after (it will pretty much take care of itself). It’s non-toxic to pets and will help clear carbon monoxide and xylene, a solvent used in marker-pens and paint.

Aloe Vera

Loves a sunny windowsill and is great for the kitchen. Aloe Vera will help clean the air of benzene and formaldehyde found in detergents.

English Ivy

Easy growing but will need at least a few hours of direct sunlight each day.  It’s a great plant for the bathroom because it can help remove mound spores from the air and can help reduce airborne faecal particles.  Which is nice.

Peace Lily

A lovely plant that doesn’t mind shade and blooms fragrant flowers during the summer.  It’s great for removing ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde and trichlorethylene from the air too!

Snake Plant

A succulent that releases oxygen at night, making it a great plant for your bedroom.  It is also good for filtering benzene, formaldehyde and xylene.

Weeping Fig

This needs bright but indirect light and is easy to look after.  It removes benzene, formaldehyde and trichlorethylene (used in solvents).

Good health depends on more than diet and exercise.  Nice looking plants that improve the air you breath and the environment you live in can positively impact your health and wellness.
